There have been some teams that have 1 or 2 ridiculous contracts for players that destroy their cap space, most notable being original KC and Miles Austin.
Well we all know he got replaced and some other teams in similar situations have changed ownership, with new guys coming in already screwed for money because of these outrageous contracts. Was thinking of making something like the new owner exemption rule, only applying it to these large contracts to get newbies some breathing space, maybe have a minimum per year salary for you to use it, the percentage of the money being cut to be determined.
So say you want to do 20%, and a Miles is signed for 15 mil a year (leaving out the RB), the new owner could cut it to 12 mil a year with this addition.

Good idea, we already have a new owner exemption though? Are you thinking further than what we already have? or what, cause ours isn't exactly what you said, but pretty similar from what I understand. We posted it to everyone a while back, and it's in the rulebook. Let me know what your thinking...

I think what he was saying is that they get to cut 20% or so off there salary and still get to keep that player. I think our exemption rule is plenty. If they cut them at a discount, they can still bid on that player and probably still get the player for less than the 20% cut and keep suggestion.

I think the new owner exception is both fair and reasonable for a new owner to help overcome the 'sins of a previous owner'. Some new owners have already done so in the past using the existing rule. To further aid a new owner may prove actually more harm than good, as we have existing owners that must be protected as well. Please take my opinion as just that an opinion I understand and respect the suggestion as good intentioned to improve competion, and that is exactly what we want.

Very well put Jets. I think starting with nothing is half the fun. I started the season without a quarterback and finished the regular season in second place in the afc. I'm not trying to toot my own horn, but doing that made the season that much better. This league is great and I think building a team from the ground up makes it even better.

If the newbie wants the salary lower let them put the player up for free agent and see if they can drop his price, cause thats how the price got to were it is, is by bidding. Other wise if we just allow the newbie to drop his price by 20% or what ever then we would be cheating the other owners that bid on that player to begin with and got the price as high as it is, am I wrong? My 2 cents.

i agree with oakland on this one. but i think if a new owner took over i think he should get maybe in a way a transition tag like 5% or 10% off when that player hits the market.
